Celebrating 20 Years!

A grassroots effort led by six visionary and compassionate women in 1992 has blossomed into a grantmaking fund that has raised over $4 million used to enrich 350 local programs serving women and children in the greater Spokane area.  The collaboration between corporate sponsors, Pioneer Circle members, table captains, generous donors and community volunteers is a reason to celebrate.  Join the celebration of WHWF's mission at the 20th annual fundraising luncheon on May 21, 2012 and be empowered to make a difference in our community!

The Women Helping Women Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women and children to create healthy families and vibrant communities.

In 1992, six Spokane women, decided to do something for local women and children in need. They had two goals:

  • To raise awareness of the plight of women and children in need in Spokane
  • To raise money that would be used to help programs that make a positive difference for women and children

These six women believed their financial contributions could make a difference. They also believed that they, and others who joined them, would be enriched and empowered by the act of giving.

Their crusade to end the cycle of poverty took the form of a benefit luncheon. The first luncheon, which was held in 1993, was attended by 760 women and men and raised more than $80,000 which was distributed to seven programs. Subsequent lunches have raised over $4 million, and over 350 programs have been funded. Funds raised at the luncheon are donated directly to programs managed by Spokane nonprofit agencies. The Women Helping Women fund supports programs, not agencies.

If you would like to be a part of the WHWF Board of Directors, the first step is to become involved.  Attend the luncheon, volunteer to serve as a table captain, work on one of our committees or help underwrite our operating expenses with a $200 contribution to the Pioneer Circle.  Contact Executive Director Lisa Diffley to find out how you can become involved.

There is more to our mission than raising money. We also want women to know they can make a difference in society through their financial contributions. We want them to understand their philanthropic role by knowing:

  • There are solutions to complex societal problems. The programs we fund make a difference.
  • There is power in their pocketbook.
  • By working together, we can leverage individual contributions for greater impact.

We know this process empowers us as women.
