In 1992 six forward thinking women founded Women Helping Women Fund. These women believed their financial contributions could make a difference. Their mission was to support programs that would empower women and children to create healthy families and vibrant communities. 2012 marks the 20th anniversary of Women Helping Women Fund carrying out its mission. In the past twenty years, WHWF has raised over $4 million dollars for women and children’s programs in Spokane. As a board, we are very excited about the celebration of the 20th year of WHWF, but this is not merely a board celebration. This is a community celebration! The truth is we could not further the mission of WHWF without the collaboration of our corporate sponsors, Pioneer Circle members, luncheon table captains and many community volunteers.
Those of you who are familiar with Women Helping Women Fund know that we are very cautious with the donations you entrust to us. We do our research; conduct site visits; and carefully discern which requests for support will have the most impact. Then we follow up with each program to assure that the funds are being effectively used.
One of our goals for our 20th year is to build our Endowment Fund in order to ensure that our mission will continue for the next 20 years and beyond. We know that this is important because the needs in our community will not go away anytime soon. We are so grateful for the donations from many of you that have helped us build the fund. Perhaps, you will consider a donation to our endowment fund to help celebrate our 20th anniversary and help build our future. Every gift, small or large is significant and very much appreciated.
Our Pioneer Circle event was held on October 26th at the Manito Golf and Country Club. It was a very successful and fun evening that included delicious hors d’oeuvres, wine and raffle baskets! The Pioneer Circle members collectively represent the largest underwriter of the annual fundraising campaign. Each member contributes at least $200 (in addition to your luncheon donation) that helps underwrite the cost of putting on our annual luncheon. Those who wanted to make a deeper commitment had the opportunity to join our Leadership or President’s Circles. This wonderful group of donors helps us to make sure that all of the donations that we receive the day of the luncheon go directly to programs. If you missed the Pioneer Circle event you still have the opportunity to join one of our circles at any time!
Our annual luncheon will take place on May 21, 2012 at the Spokane Convention Center. At our Pioneer Circle event we announced that our speaker will be Elizabeth Smart. We are so excited to have her come to Spokane! She is an amazing young woman who has overcome extreme adversity, is graduating from college this spring and has started her own foundation to help missing children and their families. If you would like to attend you do not need to be invited. You can either become one of our table captains and put together a table of 10 or register individually and we will find a table for you. We hope you will join us!
We are so appreciative of the support that you give us. We need all of your help to empower women and children in our community. Whether you attend the luncheon in May, join one of our giving circles, donate to the Vivian Winston Scholarship Fund or Endowment Fund - your help is appreciated. No gift is too small. Many small gifts put together can make a huge impact. Thank you!
