WHWF Endowment Fund: A Legacy of Hope for the Future Print E-mail
An endowment is a permanent fund established for a specific purpose. An endowment may be established by a donor, an institution, or an organization.

The fund's principal is invested to grow over time; the income it produces is used to support the endowment's purpose. Our endowment fund will help us achieve our goal of ensuring that future generations of women and children will have the resources they need to help create healthy families and vibrant communities.

Our initial goal: To raise $1 million

We feel strongly that $1,000,000 must be raised before any accrued interest is dispersed so that grants given will have a meaningful impact. Thanks to our wonderful donors, our goals are within reach - but we need your continued support to reach our long range goal of $5 million. Like all gifts to WHWF, a gift to the endowment is tax deductible.

Who can contribute?

Everyone. We want to give people of all economic levels the opportunity to help create a legacy of giving for women and children in need. Every gift is meaningful, no matter how small.

We encourage you, or your tax advisor, to work with the Endowment Chair of the WHWF and Inland Northwest Community Foundation, a community foundation which holds and invests the Women Helping Women Fund Endowment. Outright or deferred gifts of almost any type -- cash, appreciated securities, real estate or other property -- are acceptable.

  • Cash. Writing a check to the Endowment is the simplest way to give. Many donors write an initial check and pledge the rest over a specific period of time -- two, three, five, or more years.
  • Stock Gifts. Some donors prefer to give appreciated stock, which allows them to benefit the WHWF Endowment in a tax-efficient manner. Call Foundation Northwest at (509) 624-2606, and tell them you would like to make a gift to the WHWF Endowment. They will give you complete instructions.
  • Deferred Gifts (Bequests). This is the most commonly used form of planned giving. Donors simply make a provision in their wills or living trusts, designating that a certain percentage or amount is given to the WHWF Endowment.
  • Charitable Trusts. These are more sophisticated methods of giving. They allow the donor to:
    • receive tax benefits
    • direct control of funds given either during lifetime or at death.
  • One such method is to establish a trust, where the current or future beneficiary is a charitable organization, such as the WHWF Endowment. These trusts can offer significant income tax, estate tax, and capital gains tax benefits. Ask your tax advisor or contact the Inland Northwest Community Foundation for more information.
  •  Many donors give a gift in honor of or memory of an individual. Contributions celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, holidays or other special occasions are also popular.
