Kaitlin G Covert Memorial Scholarship

About the Scholarship

Kaitlin was a force to be reckoned with from the minute she was born. Kaitlin was a caregiver at heart with family, friends, and the clients she cared for. Unfortunately, her internal struggle kept her from realizing her hopes and dreams. Kaitlin's family started this scholarship to support women like Kaitlin who somehow do find within themselves the strength to overcome their life circumstances and find the way forward to change their stars.

Meet the 2026-27 Recipients

This scholarship is a blessing to me and my family. It will not only financially benefit my family, but it is also a reminder of all the hard work I have put in—from my recovery to my education. Five years ago, I was living in a shelter, about to enter a program that would make an everlasting impact on my life and my son’s life.

Since then, I have worked hard on my growth and led my boy by example. Thank you to the donors who have supported me and my family on our journey to breaking toxic generational cycles and creating healthy new ones.

“My past does not define who I am today.” Receiving this scholarship is not just financial assistance; it's recognition of the courage it took to transform my hardships into determination to build a better future for me and my daughter.

Developing a strong foundation rooted in faith, empathy, and forgiveness is central to everything I do. I’ve learned that grace is real, that forgiveness is powerful, and that we are never too far gone. As I prepare to graduate this spring and earn my Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice, my goals have never been clearer. I am driven by an overwhelming sense of compassion to meet people in the darkness and pull them into the light. I know how it feels to be lost in the dark, now it’s my turn to be someone’s light. I am deeply committed to working in environments where I can serve the Lord and uplift the most vulnerable individuals and communities. Wherever I end up, I know my purpose: to help restore hope to the most vulnerable, to be a living example of redemption, and to break cycles, not just for my own family, but for anyone in need of compassion and direction.

One of the greatest joys of my recovery journey has been rediscovering my own passions, especially horseback riding, something I grew up doing my entire childhood, and now I get to share that joy with my daughter. Equally important to me is helping my young daughter embrace and celebrate her Native American heritage. As she grows, I want her to feel grounded in who she is and where she comes from.

I am beyond excited for my next chapter and proud to announce I have been accepted into a graduate program this fall at Eastern Washington University where I will earn my Master’s degree in Social Work! I am sincerely thankful for this opportunity and grateful for all who believe in me and support my journey. Knowing that there are so many strong, resilient, and deserving women out there, I am incredibly honored and humbled to be chosen for this scholarship.
