WHWF June Newsletter


Thank you to everyone who supported the Bloom Together Campaign! If you weren't able to join us on Bloom Big Day (May 17) for the virtual conversation with Ginger Zee, it's available on our YouTube page here.

And if you missed the opportunity to donate, it's not too late. Donations made through June 30th will support 17 critical nonprofit programs and five scholarship recipients.

 

GRANTEE UPDATES

Your donation helped to fund 17 grants this year to nonprofits who are providing important programs for women and children in our community. Here are updates from some of our grantees. Enjoy!

  • YWCA: The 14-Day Racial Equity & Social Justice Challenge is underway, but you can join any time! This challenge is accessible to anyone interested in learning more about racial equity and social justice.

  • VANESSA BEHAN: The Vanessa's Promise Virtual Benefit Lunch-In is streaming now. Hear how the pandemic has affected families, challenged their organization to respond, and how your support can help.

  • TREEHOUSE: Meet the Class of 2021! A panel of graduates and will talked about their journey to high school graduation and what this accomplishment means to them.


  • TRANSITIONS: Join the hybrid tournament for the 2021 Golf Outing to End Homelessness to support the women and children at Transitions AND golf at Circling Raven Golf Club.

  • NAMI SPOKANE: Join the NAMIWalks movement for mental health on July 17th! With NAMIWalks Your Way, you can choose exactly what kind of movement or activity you want to do to support mental health locally.

  • FAMILY PROMISE: Take the challenge of spending June 26 without your bed to raise awareness for the 3,108 K-12 students that will experience homelessness in Spokane County. Participation is virtual this year.

 

THANK YOU OUTGOING BOARD MEMBERS!

This year we say goodbye and thank you to our outgoing board members Stacy Wenzel, Traci McGlathery and Anne Cowles. During their time on the board, WHWF has grown tremendously. We are forever grateful for the time, talent, and treasure they brought to the organization over the years. Read more about these three outstanding volunteers here.

 

MAY INSTAGRANT

Single Moms In Life Empowerment is a local nonprofit that provides support and resources to overcome the common challenges of single-motherhood (emotional, spiritual, physical and financial). They are hosted a drive thru style event to celebrate Mother's Day. With your support, Women Helping Women Fund sponsored 20 gift bags for attendees. Thank you!

NONPROFIT CONNECT

Learn about the collaboration between Lumen High School and GLOW Children Early Learning Center!

Lumen High School is a public charter school that is committed to empowering two generations by providing high academic standards, a specialized early learning center through GLOW Children, and wrap around supports to meet the layered needs of teen parents.

Students gain essential skills needed in order to raise healthy children and receive appropriate coursework needed to graduate prepared for contribution to their community, as well as, advancement into higher education and future careers.
